The New Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is a $1.5 billion project that is currently under construction.  The new terminal will provide greater capacity than the existing terminal with new gates designed to easily handle larger aircraft and a great hall for dining and retail shopping. It is considered to be the largest public works project in the history of the City of Los Angeles.

The new terminal is designed in accordance with the Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Sustainable Design and Construction Guidelines.  It aims to optimize energy efficiency and has selected air filters manufactured by UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI), of Valencia, California.  UVDI’s air filters have met the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) standards for smoke and flammability limits for clean air filters, known as UL 900.  UL 900 classifies these standards for both washable and throwaway air filters that are used for the removal of dust and other airborne particles from air circulated by HVAC systems.

“The UL 900 standard is designed to determine the combustibility and the amount of smoke generated by air filters under test conditions,” reported Ashish Mathur, Ph.D., UVDI’s Director of Technology.  “UVDI, working as a supplier to Johnson Controls, Inc., recently shipped the first bonded activated carbon filters that meet the UL 900 standard to LAX for use in the new international terminal.  These filters are specifically designed to remove gaseous contamination such as jet fuel exhaust.  UVDI is the only UL 900 certified bonded activated carbon filter manufacturer and it’s an honor to have our filters in LAX’s new terminal that will service millions of passengers.”

Bonded activated carbon filter systems, designed and manufactured by UVDI, are installed in residential, commercial and institutional buildings across the globe.  To learn more about UVDI’s particulate and gas phase filtration products or ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) technologies, please visit www.UVDI.com, email info@UVDI.com or call (877) 787-3882.
