Bonn, --DHL, the leading global logistics provider, is the official logistics partner of WorldSkills Leipzig 2013. For the six-day event, DHL Trade Fairs & Events – a Business Unit of DHL Freight – will be transporting machinery and material from a total of 51 countries and regions to the Exhibition Grounds in Leipzig. During the world’s largest competition for vocational skills, under the patronage of German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, the best young international trainees will be competing for medals in a total of 46 official disciplines.

“WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 is a fantastic event, at which talented young people from all over the world will be demonstrating their skills and abilities. Several hundred tons of freight have to be transported – by sea, road, rail and air – for the more than 1,000 participants”, explains Vincenzo Scrudato, Managing Director DHL Trade Fairs & Events.

In order to help ensure the smooth organization of the Cup, DHL has already begun transportation of the material samples for the participants. The company is responsible for the complete logistics requirement, including delivery to the competition workshops. In addition, DHL will be setting up a Logistics Center for the event from May onward; this will have a floor space of approximately 4,000 square meters and will be used to store incoming material and ensure on-time delivery to the vocational trade show.

“The logistics for WorldSkills Leipzig 2013 represents a truly enormous challenge: the competitions require the transportation of up to two million individual objects. We are delighted to have as our partner DHL, whom we can count on to handle this work successfully,” adds Hubert Romer, CEO of WorldSkills Leipzig 2013.

More than 200,000 visitors from Germany and abroad are expected at WorldSkills 2013 in Leipzig, which is being held from July 2-7 this year. For young people aged up to 22, this event is an interesting platform on which to get to know a broad range of trades, crafts, services and industries and also to establish contacts with companies and businesses.

Vocational opportunities for young people are also a key focus of DHL. As part of its Strategy 2015, the company is using its GoTeach program all over the world for the promotion of training and education as well as for the improvement of young people’s career prospects.
