Exelon’s ’Fishing for a Cure’ Bass Tournament Sold Out

BRACEVILLE, IL - For the fourth year in a row, Exelon’s “Fishing for a Cure” reached its maximum participation limit of 100 boats, which guarantees a minimum donation of $15,000 to this year’s sponsored organization, the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter.

“Exelon’s generosity allows us to further our mission by continuing to provide educational programs for the community as well as support for those affected by Alzheimer’s,” said Beth Alderson, manager of special events for the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter. “This donation of $15,000 allows us to provide support services for 32 needy families along with 20 one-hour community education programs. We are so appreciative of Exelon’s kindness and support.”

The bass tournament will be Saturday, May 18, commencing from Braidwood Lake’s Kankakee Road (South) Ramp at 6:30 a.m.

“This tournament continues to generate a lot of excitement,” said Braidwood Site Vice President Dan Enright. “We sold out boat space faster than ever before. This shows how anxious the anglers are to support a great cause and what a great fishing spot our cooling lake has become.”

Although space in the bass tournament is sold out, organizations and individuals can still make a donation to support the effort. Plenty of spots remain open for young anglers in the children’s fishing derby the same day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Godley Park District. Children’s registration opens at 9 a.m. and requires a $5 entry fee. More information on the children’s tournament is available at www.exeloncorp.com/events.

Since its inaugural tournament in 2002, “Fishing for a Cure” has raised nearly a quarter million dollars for local and regional charities. In 2012, the tournament raised a record $48,000 for four Braidwood-area food pantries.
