Roland Mouret Showcases His New Autumn/Winter 13 Collection in Paris

Roland Mouret has established a reputation as one of the most exciting and unconventional designers on the fashion circuit, and this was more than evident as he showcased his new Autumn/Winter 13 collection during a runway show at the Westin Hotel in Paris earlier this month.
This new season ready-to-wear collection takes a cinematic direction, as Roland himself admits that he is “inspired all the time” by the silver screen. With its strong tailoring, three-dimensional folds, bold colours and an ‘air de danger’, the AW13 range is based around the performance of Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger. Roland describes Deneuve in this role as “the ultimate Parisienne”.
Alongside the AW13 womenswear range, Roland Mouret also unveiled his new collection of stunning handbags, all of which have been designed to be worn alongside the full ready-to-wear collection.
As well as being functional, each Roland Mouret handbag demonstrates incredible attention to detail. From the Le Sept chain shoulder bag, to the Paris-Paris framed pouch, this debut handbag collection stays loyal to the design principles upon which Roland has made his name.
Speaking about why he loves to showcase his new collections in Paris, Roland said: “Paris evokes something in me, each season it inspires me to make the collection more ’Parisienne’, it makes demands on you and of you.”
Roland added that he enjoys showcasing in Paris as it allows the designer to step away from the trends that could form in other fashion capitals such as London, New York and Milan.
He said: “I learnt of British quirkiness with my first shows in London, learnt of American sportswear when I showed in New York but Paris is different. It seems to me Paris has its own definitions in the ‘dictionnaire de la mode’ to make something more ’Parisienne’.
 “Now my ideas of ‘the woman’ combine with a strong sense of ’Parisienne’ which takes me on a journey of opening new doors, in a sense of draping and visualising.”
