Half-hour special explores the controversial decision to proactively name winter storms

WHAT: This year, Athena, Nemo, and Saturn are not just a Greek goddess, a Greek boy’s name, and the planet surrounded by more than a dozen rings. They’re three of the names given to this year’s winter storms by The Weather Channel. In October 2012, The Weather Channel made the revolutionary yet controversial decision to proactively name winter storms - making it the first national organization in the U.S. to do so - generating a huge response and lots of questions. Why names? How does the naming system work? Tune in for answers to those questions and more during “A Storm Named Winter,” a half-hour special premiering Tuesday, March 19, at 8 p.m. ET.
