Apple and Dr Dre in talks over new music streaming service
The Snugg respond to news Apple and Dr Dre are reportedly in talks over launching a brand new music streaming service which will work alongside iTunes and Beats Electronics.
Apple and Dr Dre are reportedly in talks over launching a brand new music streaming service which will work alongside iTunes and Beats Electronics, the electronics firm founded by the musician, which is known for its headphones, branded HP laptops and speakers.
The new music streaming service is apparently code named Project Daisy and its release could coincide with the launch of a music service by Google later this year. According to rumours the search engine giant is due to unveil a YouTube linked streaming service in a bid to lessen iTunes’ grip on the market.
Those believed to be in attendance at the meeting between iTunes and Beats executives in February included Apple chief executive Tim Cook, CEO of Beats Jimmy Lovine and Eddy Cue, who is senior vice president of internet software and services at Apple.
Sources said that the meeting was “informative” and a large number of music-related topics were discussed by the group.
The most recent statistics for iTunes show that as of September last year there are some 400 million active user accounts linked to the service, and that the service is used on more than 315 million mobile devices, including iPads.
Apple’s app store has more than 225,000 applications which are specifically designed for use on the iPad and iTunes users can download music directly to the tablet, bypassing their iPod or music player completely.
Project Daisy has already secured funding worth $60 million from investors including James Packer, an Australian media and gambling tycoon, owner of Warner Music Len Blavatnik and Lee M. Bass, an American business mogul.
Commenting on the new music streaming service, Marketing Manager at The Snugg Les Yates said:
“The launch of a music streaming service will be another string to Apple’s bow. Apple is a hugely successful company but with the popularity of smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy taking the shine off the iPhone it’s vital for the firm to move into different areas.
"One thing we are particularly interested to see is how the deal between Beats and Apple will break down, as Beats is already in partnership with Apple’s main rival HTC.”
