CTIA-The Wireless Association® Announces Debbie Matties as Vice President of Privacy

WASHINGTON, – CTIA-The Wireless Association® announced Debbie Matties will join as its Vice President of Privacy today. In this newly created role, Matties is responsible for working with CTIA members on industry best practices and will lead CTIA’s efforts to educate policymakers and consumers about the options wireless companies offer to protect personal information. She will also serve as the association’s primary liaison with government agencies and their representatives on privacy issues.

Before joining CTIA, Matties was the Senior Attorney Advisor for Consumer Protection to former Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz. She played an integral role on the Privacy Report, Facial Recognition Technology Report and reports on mobile privacy. Matties also advised Chairman Leibowitz on financial and other consumer protection regulation and enforcement.

“Debbie’s background will make her a valuable addition to our team as we continue to proactively develop guidelines and best practices driven by transparency and choice to protect all mobile users, including kids. CTIA and our members have always been privacy advocates, and Debbie will help ensure government, individuals and wireless companies have the appropriate role and responsibility on this important issue,” said Steve Largent, President and CEO of CTIA.

Previously, Matties was a staff attorney at the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and an associate at Covington & Burling. She was a judicial clerk for The Honorable Leonard I. Garth at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Newark, NJ and for The Honorable Thomas Penfield Jackson at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Matties has a Juris Doctor with highest honors from George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in biology from the University of Pennsylvania.
