AIC announces modularized JBOD series for storage-intensive use

Adaptability has become a strong governing theme in the cloud storage industry as the open philosophy takes hold at both the hardware and software level. Both customers and providers have benefited from combining best-in-breed components to optimize their solutions at affordable costs. Hardware provider AIC highlighted the value of flexibility with the release of its modularized JBOD offering earlier this year. The solution is designed for media broadcasting, streaming, data mining and other storage-intensive activities.

One of the challenges that can come from data-intensive tasks is that downtime can compromise the integrity of information. As a result, AIC included redundant power supply, cooling and controller functionality. If any of the solution’s primary systems fail, the backup takes over without affecting overall performance.Additional technical highlights include:

• High density storage capacity
• Hassle-free maintenance: HDD/Fan/PSU/Expander tray
• High availability dual controller design provides zero operating downtime and easy maintenance

AIC has also expanded its reach into the multimedia market by becoming a Seagate Builder Alliance Partner. As a result of this collaboration, AIC combined its JBOD XJ3000-4603 high-density rack-mount subsystem with Seagate’s Enterprise Value HDD series to create a line of mass storage subsystems. The new solution differs from traditional offerings in that it was augmented to support 60 bays, as opposed to 16, and allows for a total capacity of up to 180 TB.

AIC’s product will also be equipped with Seagate’s PowerChoice technology, which provides total cost of ownership benefits through reduced power consumption. This offering also follows a modular design, enables hot-swapping and values high availability so that robust features do not come at the expensive of reliability.
