Swissport and Jade Cargo International conclude strategic collaboration on airfreight services between Europe and Asia
Zurich, July 21, 2006 – Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of aviation services, has concluded a global collaboration agreement with Jade Cargo International, the dynamic airfreight carrier based in Shenzhen, China. Under the terms of the accord, Swissport will assume full responsibility for all Jade Cargo International’s handling requirements at Amsterdam and Seoul airports from August 1. The partners will also consider extending their collaboration to further destinations at a later date.
Jade Cargo International, which is a joint venture between Shenzhen Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo and DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft), is one of a number of young and dynamic companies that are set to develop into key providers of airfreight services between Europe and Asia.
The carrier will take delivery of six brand-new Boeing 747-400ER (extended range) freighters over the next two years. The first of these will be entering service on the Shenzhen-Amsterdam and Shenzhen-Seoul routes (each served thrice weekly) at the beginning of August. Swissport will be providing cargo services for its new airline partner at Amsterdam and Seoul airports.
China is one of the fastest-growing air cargo markets anywhere in the world, with an annual volume that is currently increasing at over 10%. The Chinese government fully intends to ensure that the demand can be met, and plans to increase the number of airports in the country from the present 142 to over 220 by 2020. China’s total aircraft fleet is also set to double in size over the same period.
“I am very optimistic about our future business prospects,” says Reto Hunziker, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing at Jade Cargo International. “Our trucking service with its connections to Hong Kong and Guangzhou airports and our regular trucking routes in Europe to and from our new destination Amsterdam establish a foundation for serving our customers well.”
Rudolf Steiner, Head of Global Sales & Key Account Management within Swissport International’s Cargo Services division, is equally enthusiastic. “We are delighted that Jade Cargo International has chosen Amsterdam as its European hub and Swissport as its prime handling partner,” he explains. “We’re convinced we can make this Euro-Asian partnership a sound business success; and we will be devoting all our efforts and energies to supporting and promoting these key cargo flows between the two continents.”
Swissport International Ltd.
