John M. Johnson, D.D.S. Receives Top Dentist Honor From CT Magazine
Dentist from Contemporary Dentistry Receives Recognition Third Year in a Row
 
John M. Johnson, D.D.S., received the Top Dentist recognition again from CT Magazine for the category General Dentistry. Dr. Johnson received Top Dentist in 2010, 2011 and now for 2012, having been recommended to the magazine by his peers.
 
“Because it’s a vote of my peers, I am humbled by the recognition,” said Dr. Johnson in reaction. For those who know him, “Jack” is an affable, witty man, and this reaction does show how much it means to him. He has practiced for over 25 years, and enjoys his work so much, he doesn’t even begin to think about retirement. “Every half hour I see a different patient. I get a lot of satisfaction out of helping people restore their bite so they can enjoy their meals again.”
 
Connecticut Magazine publishes the Top Dentists Guide annually, and polls every dentist licensed in the state of CT, asking them to recommend a dentist they would send a loved one for care to, in seven categories. The only way to make the list is to be recommended by those dentists who return those questionnaires. The magazine considers the survey to have a high response rate.
 
Dr. Johnson grew up in Berwick, PA, a small town near the Pocono Mountains, and became interested in dentistry in middle school. He attended the University of Scranton on an athletic scholarship, and received a B.S. in biology. His dental degree comes from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry, where he joined the faculty following graduation, teaching the specialty of crown and bridge. He continues his athletic interests still today on the golf course.
Dr. Johnson began practicing dentistry in CT in 1986, and shares his practice with a team of women who help put patients at ease with their compassion. He feels that women understand not just the common fear of going to the dentist, but the logistics of juggling hectic schedules.
 
Contemporary Dentistry is located in Groton, CT, and Dr. Johnson shares his practice with two other dentists, Drs. Donna J. Sanfilippo and Mildred L. Goebel. The practice is remarkably high-tech with diagnostic equipment and TV monitors, but also has a cutting-edge reminder system that sends out reminders via text or emails several times before the appointment, starting one month out. They also have participated in a very unique reputation management system with requests for patient ratings via a feedback response system developed by a local marketing company in southeastern CT. “We want to make sure our patients are happy with our services and that we help them,” says “Jack”.
