Tablets will enhance education at H.W. Burgess Public School, courtesy of a $2,000 grant

WALLACEBURG, ON – Union Gas is providing Grade 7 and 8 students and teachers at H.W. Burgess Public School with seven computer tablets and accessories for an additional 58 devices, courtesy of a $2,000 grant awarded today.

Dave Lamoureux, director storage and transmission operations for Union Gas, presented the cheque to Todd Tiffin, principal of H.W. Burgess Public School. The pair was joined by teachers Kristan Richardson and Leigh-Anne Miller and a group of enthusiastic Grade 7 and 8 students.

“At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow,” said Lamoureux. “That means supporting important educational programs in the communities we serve. That’s why we are pleased to help H.W. Burgess Public School acquire new teaching and learning tools for the classroom.”

The contribution supports a broader initiative undertaken by the Lambton-Kent District School Board to equip all Grade 7, 8 and 9 students, teachers and principals in the Wallaceburg family of schools with the mobile devices.

“Inside the classroom, tablets are transforming traditional lessons, allowing for a new way of teaching and learning, particularly in the area of mathematics,” said Tiffin. “While the board covers the cost of purchasing most of the tablets, there are many additional costs associated with the project, which must be funded at the school level, and we are most grateful to Union Gas for their support.”
