Ideal addition to the product portfolio for industrial applications

Erlangen, Jul 20, 2006, The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) is acquiring 100 percent of shares in the joint stock company AG Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch. Headquartered in Frankenthal, Germany, this company develops, manufactures and markets steam turbines with a rating of up to 5 MW, as well as turbocompressors and fans for industrial applications. The company has locations in Frankenthal, Bad Hersfeld, Zweibrücken and Leipzig (Germany) and in Helsingor (Denmark) and recorded sales of around EUR270 million in 2005 with a workforce of approximately 1,400. The take-over is subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities.

“Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch extends our product portfolio in the industrial applications market segment still farther into the lower output range. With this addition, our industrial steam turbine range stretches from 45 KW to 180 MW, while in the field of compressors we are now able to offer a broad spectrum of smaller standard machines in addition to large process gas compressors. At the same time this gives us access to growing market segments in Asia and North America, and to new customer groups, for example in the water treatment and effluent management industry,” said Klaus Voges, group president of Siemens Power Generation.

Turbines made by the AG Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch group are used to generate electric power or as mechanical drives, in applications such as wood and paper processing, in the chemical and petrochemical industry, and in the steel, textiles and foodstuffs industries. The company’s turbocompressors are to be found not only in various chemical processes, but also in the water resources and effluent management industry and in ore extraction. Fans made by Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch are used in, for example, power plants, in mining, and in the steel and cement industries.

The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2005 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR8.1 billion and received new orders totaling EUR11 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR951 million. On September 30, 2005, PG had a work force of approximately 33,500 worldwide. Further information at: www.siemens.com/powergeneration.
