Roding, July 20, 2006 - The Mühlbauer technology group quoted on the Prime Standard and worldwide active and independent advisor and manufacturer of innovative security solutions for the TECURITY market was awarded another contract for delivering decentralized desktop personalization solutions for the ID card project in Spain.
As one of the strategic partners of the Indra system integrator, Mühlbauer supports the Spanish Ministry of the Interior in establishing the infrastructure for the first decentralized ID card project in the world. Mühlbauer’s CLP54 system solution makes it possible for public authorities to electronically and optically personalize ID cards on site and to deliver them to the citizen. The Spanish public no longer needs to deal with long waiting times from the application to the reception of an ID card

At the beginning of the pilot phase six month ago, Spain ordered 35 personalization machines from Mühlbauer. In high-level performance tests, Mühlbauer managed to qualify and was able to convince the Spanish Ministry of the Interior of the potential of the decentralized system solution CLP54. As early as March no less a person than the Spanish Minister of the Interior, José Antonio Alonso, could hand over the first electronic ID card to the citizens of the Spanish pilot town of Burgos.

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior is now planning to equip more and more local authorities in the whole country with the newly ordered Mühlbauer personalization systems in the next few months. It is planned to have established the complete infrastructure for issuing the new electronic ID card in the whole of Spain by 2008. A total of 350 police stations are scheduled to be equipped with these decentralized card solutions.

The Mühlbauer company, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, has detailed technical knowledge in technological and innovative system solutions and benefits from its experience in highly-sensitive government ID projects. This year the technology group has already been involved in other ePassport projects in states such as Slovenia and Portugal, in the course of which even the strictest of national guidelines are complied with.

Mühlbauer is a global, independent consultant and manufacturer of turnkey automation solutions for the smart card, smart label, semiconductor backend and vision industries. In addition, the company is active in the areas of data enrollment and verification, precision parts and OEM production. With about 1,500 employees in 26 locations on five continents, Mühlbauer is a leading supplier of production equipment for the smart card industry.
