Spotlight on Pebax® in the Latest Ski Boot Collections!

WEBWIRE

ISPO Munich, the European trade fair for winter and outdoor sports, offers a showcase for the latest trends in ski equipment. At ISPO 2013, sport brands Atomic®, Scarpa®, Salewa® and Fischer® presented their latest technical boot models that feature Pebax®, Arkema’s thermoplastic elastomer, the reference material for both alpine touring and cross-country ski boots for several years now. Its performances also make it a choice material for free-ride ski boots, a fast growing sector

Pebax®, in particular Pebax® Rnew, aptly combines the characteristics and environmental qualities that appeal to sportsmen and women: light weight and great freedom of design for novel designs, while also maintaining perfect quality and performance under extreme cold conditions.

Atomic®, for example, has been particularly innovative with its free-ride/alpine touring Waymaker Tour 110 ski boot. With its Pebax® shell, this ski boot won the Award for its category at ISPO, in particular thanks to its light weight, much appreciated in the ascent phase.

Italian brand Scarpa®, a long-standing partner to Arkema, highlights the characteristics of Pebax® Rnew in its Scarpa® Freedom new free-ride ski boot range. Combining several innovations by Scarpa®, this range is made of a shell entirely made of Pebax® to help achieve maximum light weight, while protecting the environment.

Dynafit®, a trademark from Salewa® the specialist in alpine sport equipments, using Pebax® since many years, introduced the Dynafit® Titan Ultralight with a Pebax® shell and cuff, combining ultra-lightness and the stiffness required by freeriders.

Fischer®, number 1 for nordic ski, uses Pebax® in the design of the outer sole of its RCS Carbonlite Skating long-distance ski boots. Light weight, excellent sturdiness, and flexibility in extreme temperatures are the key criteria for which Fisher selects Pebax® year after year.

Produced by Arkema, Pebax® (polyether block amide) is a high performance plastic from the thermoplastic elastomer family. Compared with the other elastomers used in sports equipment such as TPU or CoPE, Pebax® is 20% lighter, offers greater impact resistance, higher energy return and excellent UV resistance, and does not become rigid at low temperature.

Produced from renewable raw materials, Pebax® Rnew was recently specifically designed to meet the most exacting applications. Based on the chemistry of polyamide 11 produced from castor oil, Pebax® Rnew naturally combines eco-design with performance.
