New Applications Out on Ericsson Smart Services Routers
-Ericsson Service-Aware Support Node (SASN) and Ericsson Wi-Fi Gateway to be added to Ericsson’s multi-application SSR 8000 family platform
-Ericsson Service-Aware Support Node provides policy control solutions that ensure a quality experience for users and enables operators to provide differentiated services
-Ericsson Wi-Fi Gateway integrates Wi-Fi and mobile-broadband networks for a seamless user experience when switching between access types
-The addition of new applications to the powerful Ericsson SSR 8000 family platform saves both capex and opex
The commercially successful Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) Smart Services Routers, the SSR 8000 family, now provide new opportunities for operators to further consolidate networks with two new applications on the same platform.
One of the applications is the Ericsson Service-Aware Support Node, a key component in the company’s policy control solution Service-Aware Charging and Control. It can be used to categorize different types of traffic to ensure the best user experience while optimizing the use of network resources.
The other application is the Ericsson Wi-Fi Gateway, which integrates Wi-Fi networks with mobile-broadband infrastructure, leveraging best-in-class mobile policy control and charging control. The Ericsson Wi-Fi Gateway will support the industry’s first network-controlled, clientless solution for dynamic traffic steering between cellular and Wi-Fi. This capability is critical to providing consistently superior performance and a truly seamless mobile-broadband user experience across Wi-Fi and licensed bands while optimizing heterogeneous-network resources.
Reducing the number of platforms and consolidating different types of functionality on the same platform are both key ways of saving operators’ capex and opex, since having fewer nodes and operating systems makes it easier to manage a network.
The two new applications will be presented at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 25-28, and will be commercially available during the second half of 2013.
Other mobile- and fixed-network applications launched by Ericsson on the SSR 8000 family platform include the Ericsson Evolved Packet Gateway, Broadband Network Gateway, L2/L3 Customer Edge and Provider Edge Router.
During Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Ericsson showcases its combined technology and services leadership for the Information and Communications Technology industry. Our solutions deliver superior network performance in the field, enable complete customer experience management, simplify and automate operations workflows thereby leading to operational excellence. We show how the Networked Society comes to life - what it will mean for the industry and how it will enable our customers to capture growth opportunities.
