Three rapid blows devastate Delray Beach family

WEBWIRE

Delray Beach, Fla -  An old wives’ tale declares that important events come in threes.  The Tim Kennedy family of Delray Beach, Florida might be modern proof that old saws have a grain of truth in them.  Unfortunately for the Kennedys, their three events were not happy ones.

In early December Tim Kennedy was critically injured in a fall.  While working on a roof Tim’s ladder slipped and he fell more than fourteen feet onto concrete, slamming his head and breaking his ribs.  EMS rushed him to Delray Beach Medical Center where he would remain for two weeks.

With Tim in the hospital his wife Aimee pierced her hand with a thorn while doing yard work.  The thorn punctured a tendon and an infection set in immediately.  Aimee was admitted to the hospital where Tim was being treated.  Her infection was serious, requiring multiple surgeries, and after about a week she was released home to join her young daughter Hailey and her recuperating husband.  They joked about their unusual plight, but the laughter was about to come to an abrupt halt.

A few days after her thirteenth birthday in January Hailey was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, or AML.  Aimee and Tim were devastated.  After consultation with local specialists it was decided to immediately transfer Hailey to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.  The pediatric cancer team at St. Jude was conducting a clinical trial combining stem cells with a chemotherapy and bone marrow regimen.  This offered hope for Hailey and she headed to Memphis with her mother for the six month treatment program.  Hailey is being brave – her mom and dad are too – and enduring the poking, prodding, bruising, sickness and fear.  She is an exceptional young lady.

Reeling from circumstances defying all odds the Kennedys now are faced with the challenge of making ends meet while Hailey and her mom are in Memphis.  Aimee left her job to be with Hailey and Tim’s small business is suffering from his absence.  Funds are low and disappearing fast.  But the Kennedys’ many friends have launched an effort to provide help to Tim, Aimee and Hailey during these difficult days.

Rallying cries went out, meetings were held, a website was designed, benefits planned, and a bank account opened for donations and benefit receipts.  But the Kennedy’s friends need the help of others too.  If you find it in your heart to provide a helping hand to Tim, Aimee and Hailey please go to www.haileykennedy.com for details and participate any way you can.  You can also contact Friends of Hailey, Aimee & Tim by email hailey.benefit@gmail.com .
