Charleston Restoration Expert Retiring After An Amazing 40 Year Career

Ray Whitmer, the owner of Charleston Historic Restorations, Charleston Woodfinishing, and Wood Finishing School, has announced his retirement from businesses that have been in the family since 1888. Ray is known nationally for his vast expertise in restoration and finishing antiques, Cathedrals, Basilicas, museum pieces of all kinds, National Monuments and Historic Registry Homes and Buildings, Steinways, yachts and much more.

For the past several years Ray has operated a Wood Finishing School in Charleston, sharing his knowledge with the master finishers and restoration experts of the future.

“I have had the extraordinary opportunity to work on some amazing historic architectural restorations, on historic antique furniture once owned by Presidents and where Presidents laid their heads. Most of all, I am forever blessed by the wonderful clients I have worked for, and the lasting relationships that have evolved. This is not the end for me it is just the end to a very long first chapter.” Ray will continue to offer consultation services and his services as an expert witness nationwide.
 
When Ray began to plan for this day of retirement, he wondered just what would chapter two be? What he knew for sure, it was going to be on Folly Beach. When asked over the past few years what he was going to be doing after retirement, he would respond, “not sure, but it will be on Folly Beach”.
 
Today Ray formally announces the launch of On Folly Beach http://onfollybeach.com which all there was on his mind, something on Folly Beach. On Folly Beach is the foundation of a very comprehensive business group offering Folly Beach rental advertising and internet marketing service, vacation rental management, rental turnarounds, housekeeping services, free rental locator, rental websites, and a collection of the areas best trades to provide owners with qualified services and repairs. It appears Chapter two is clearly underway for Ray, so much for retirement.
