2013 marks the 53rd anniversary of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).  Since 1960, ABIH, a not-for-profit corporation, has been the world’s largest, premier organization for certifying professionals in the practice of industrial hygiene.

ABIH certifies qualified industrial hygienists engaged in the practice of industrial hygiene, and who have met the professional knowledge standards established by the ABIH’s Board of Directors.  Over the past 53 years, thousands of industrial hygiene professionals have obtained the prestigious Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification administered by the organization.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene is dedicated to the implementation of appropriate professional standards designed to serve the public, employees, employers, clients and the industrial hygiene profession.  First and foremost, ABIH certificants and candidates give priority to health and safety interests related to the protection of people, and act in a manner that promotes integrity and reflects positively on the profession, consistent with accepted moral, ethical and legal standards.

“The ABIH is proud to have reached 53 years of service and to have improved the health and safety of millions of workers across the globe,” reported Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH.   “CIHs continue to be recognized as leaders in the industrial hygiene community and are highly sought after by industry, institutions and government agencies.  The ABIH looks forward to continuing to serve in our role of administering the CIH program for many years to come as new challenges and opportunities emerge in the industrial hygiene profession.”

ABIH has released a video about the benefits of achieving the CIH that can be viewed at: http://www.abih.org/abih-video
