House Research Institute Offering Free Hearing Screenings and Audiology Consultations at NAMM

Los Angeles, Calif. – January 17, 2013 — The House Research Institute announces their free nonprofit hearing health and screening services to attendees of the NAMM  Show on January 24 – 27, 2013, in  Hall E, Booth #1292  at the Anaheim Convention Center. The institute offers its free hearing health services through sponsorship support from the NAMM Show and hearing device manufacturer Cochlear Americas. In addition, attendees can speak with licensed audiologists from the House Research Institute and House Clinic on the show floor, and receive literature on how to prevent noise-induced hearing loss as part of maintaining a healthy career in the music industry.

House Research Institute is celebrating more than a decade of providing free and confidential hearing screening services and prevention information at NAMM, and is equipped to test more than 800 attendees this year – or eight people every 15 minutes. With the popularity of the free service, everyone is encouraged to stop by early in the day to sign-up for an appointment time that works best with their show schedule.
 
“Hearing loss issues, especially those that are noise-induced, continue to be dominant health problems in the music industry,” said Marilee Potthoff, director of community education & outreach, House Research Institute. “Hearing problems that are left unaddressed limit the music careers of too many highly talented people. If you are in the music business, understanding your own hearing ability is an important first-step to preventing future problems from over-exposure to loud decibels, both on and off the job. As a nonprofit hearing health research organization, we can help music professionals get the assistance they need with our services at the show.”
 
Everyone’s individual screening results from our services at NAMM are retained in a confidential patient database with the institute; people who have had screenings in prior years will be able compare their current results to track any changes over time.
