Company to Provide Network Management for Critical Defense Operations

July 17, 2006, BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Business announced today that it reached a $7.4 million agreement to extend an existing contract for one year with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to provide bandwidth manager services to the agency’s Defense Information System Network (DISN).

As a key communications provider to federal government, Verizon Business will provide the bandwidth manager portion of the network under the DISN Switched/Bandwidth Management Continental United States contract. The company will provide bandwidth managers to direct data communications, network security and network management to establish the foundation for one of the defense community’s most reliable networks.

“We have watched the government’s network demands evolve over the years as the government moves more and more to network-centric communications with the power to distribute information instantly and globally,” said Jerry Edgerton, group president for Verizon Federal, a group within Verizon Business dedicated to serving federal government customers. "Verizon Business continues to make investments in our networks to keep up with that demand. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Department of Defense.’’

The contract was first awarded to the company in 1996.
