Houston, TX December 17, 2012 – New facts have emerged to support plaintiffs’ claims in GranuFlo and NaturaLyte lawsuit cases showing dialysis injury.

The issue with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte became known when dialysis patients started experiencing health complications during, or shortly after, dialysis treatment.

After a large number of reports surfaced of patients suffering heart attacks and other side effects, it was realized that GranuFlo and NaturaLyte were responsible for the dialysis injury.

GranuFlo and NaturaLyte, both manufactured by Fresenius Medical Care, are additives used in dialysis treatment to counteract the rising acidity levels. If not used in the proper dosage, these additives can result in grossly elevated levels of bicarbonate.

This leads to a pH imbalance that can ultimately interfere with bodily functions and cause heart attacks and even death.

The FDA has since issued a Class I recall, it’s most urgent type of recall, for these products.According to the The New York Times, Fresenius had issued a memo in November 2011 warning doctors of the risk for serious side effects when using GranuFlo and NaturaLyte and to adjust their dosage accordingly.

However, this memo was only sent to facilities that were within its own network of Fresenius clinics. The thousands of other clinics that were using these products were not notified of the problem until March 2012.

The FDA is currently undergoing an investigation to see if Fresenius’ failure to issue an earlier warning violates federal law.

With new information becoming available proving the link between GranuFlo and dialysis injury, as well as Fresenius Medical Care’s negligence in warning the clinics, it is imperative that you file a claim now if you or a loved one were injured from dialysis treatment. Dialysis patients who suffered heart attacks, sudden cardiac death, and other catastrophic heart side effects within 48 hours of a dialysis treatment with GranuFlo or NaturaLyte may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
