Leather Bomber Jackets Retailer, American Mystique, Warns Consumers of Spam Websites Stealing or Misappropriating Simple Search Terms and Hurting Legitimate Online Businesses
“If I am searching Online for a store that sells traditional (bomber jackets), I certainly do not want to click on a listing only to find that I have been directed to some spam website with images of desks and lamps.”
Noting the ever increasing and successful abuse of search terms by spamming websites geared to misdirect apparel search traffic in major search engines, Dave Adams, owner and founder of AmericanMistique.com, a business devoted to offering traditional leather bomber jackets and flight jackets made in the USA, issued the following statement:
“A Bomber Jacket or flight jacket is a Style of Leather Jacket that has a long and proven track record in public sales. Maybe this is why so many new spam websites are stealing and misappropriating this simple search term and hurting the legitimate online businesses that sell the real article.”
According to Adams, the last five years have witnessed an increasing deliberate and designed abuse toward exploiting certain ‘apparel search terms’ to guide online searchers to websites that sell young women’s clothing, school girl age apparel, and even furniture, by labeling every item on the website as a “bomber jacket” or “leather bomber jacket”, or “flight jacket”, or “leather flight jacket” and not one single item presented on the abusing website is anything close to the real article.
“Why is this? It’s simple, they can’t abide by the search engine rules and the perpetrators see little response from the major search engines to their keyword and image manipulation to drive erroneous traffic to their corner of the world,” says Adams. “It is something to type in the search term, “Leather Bomber Jacket”, and click on one of the first listings and find nothing but short wool sweaters for little girls all labeled “leather bomber jacket”, or perhaps to find a new desk with the heading of ‘leather flight jacket’.”
Adams continues: “Any legitimate company, like American Mistique, who sells real genuine leather bomber jackets and navy flight jackets, has little recourse against such abusive dealings. Companies can lodge complaints with the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing, but unfortunately the legitimate companies see little to no action to their pleas for help.”
“It seems that any entity can abuse the search system by just labeling anything, like the image of a desk, call it a “bomber jacket” and get away with it. What most fail to understand is the true cost of this massive failure to the many small businesses who rely on their online sales,” states Adams.
This keyword labeling abuse costs millions every year in lost sales and it aggravates the genuine searchers to no end, --- and little attention is paid to it by the so called all powerful search engines. And even the larger companies are starting to get into the act of manipulation of keywords to drive search traffic to their websites. Larger discount stores, who sell no such item as a genuine leather bomber jacket, suddenly appear in the top organic listings for that keyword and the search engines offer no justifiable reasons.
This makes it just that more difficult for the customer who is truly looking for a USA Made leather bomber jacket to find one. In other words, the search engines are not really helping their users very well. Many times, the listings that appear for a search term defy logic and most of it is due to the allowed exploitation and abuse of search terms by entities who are underhanded in the first place. They are in it for the hits, the clicks, and the traffic, they misuse it to aid their own rankings or their client’s website unmindful of the true damage they do small businesses.
“The major search engines are consistently fooled or just don’t care to monitor this con closely enough,” explains Adams. “If I am searching for a desk, I will certainly type in the word “desk”. If I am searching Online for a store that sells traditional bomber jackets, I certainly do not want to click on a listing only to find that I have been directed to some spam website with images of desks and lamps.”
For the future of the American Apparel Industry, we can only hope that the Major Search Engines will finally crack down on these spamming abuses or we can expect to see more wool duck pants labeled leather bomber jacket or wooden desks mislabeled a leather flight jacket.
