Erlangen/Neurath, Germany, July 14, 2006 - Siemens Power Generation (PG) is to equip both blocks of the new lignite-fired power plant in Grevenbroich-Neurath (North Rhine-Westphalia) with an innovative control system for RWE Power. Dr. Johannes Lambertz, Head of Fossil Fuel-Fired Power Plants at RWE Power, and Klaus Voges, President of the Siemens Power Generation Group signed a contract to this effect today at the construction site in Neurath. Siemens will also deliver the transformers for the plant and the drive turbines for the feed water pumps. The total order volume exceeds EUR90 million.

“We’re proud to be able to supply a vital component for the new power plant in Neurath,” stated Voges. Siemens PG has already delivered the largest steam turbine set in the world and the main control system for the lignite-fired power plant in Niederaussem in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia which has been feeding power into the grid since 2003. “The order was awarded to Siemens on the strength of an economically and technically superior bid,” Lambertz stressed.

RWE Power is constructing a double block plant with a total capacity of 2,100 megawatts (MW) at the Grevenbroich-Neurath power plant site. The control system constitutes a particularly important component of the power plant. Siemens PG is deploying the worldwide first fully web-based control system of the fourth generation for this project. With its use in the new lignite-fired power plant this innovative system enters a new performance dimension.

The Power Generation Group (PG) of Siemens AG is one of the premier companies in the international power generation sector. In fiscal 2005 (which ended September 30), Siemens PG posted sales amounting to approximately EUR8.1 billion and received new orders totaling EUR10.9 billion. Group profit amounted to EUR951 million. On September 30, 2005, PG had a work force of approximately 33,500 worldwide.
