Bosch Security Systems GmbH has been commissioned by the project management company Neue Messe GmbH & Co. KG as the principal contractor to install the security-related equipment in Stuttgart’s New Trade Fair Center. This order includes an extremely extensive security package including fire alarm systems, electroacoustic systems, smoke and heat exhaust equipment, and is valued at EUR 4.3 million.

The first stage of the project has already begun with the installation of the security systems on the building site. It is planned that part of the New Trade Fair Center will open in early 2007; the entire complex is expected to be completed in the autumn of the same year. During its subsequent operation, Bosh will also maintain the fire, electroacoustics, heat and smoke exhaust infrastructures.

When the Trade Fair Center is fully operational, its security system will be based on three UGM 2020 Universal Security Systems manufactured by Bosch. Supplemented by 27 UEZ 2000 SRT fire panels, the system is eminently capable of providing the best possible protection against fire hazards. With a total of 5500 automatic and 800 non-automatic fire detectors installed throughout the premises, emergency response staff will be able to locate a hazard point quickly and accurately from any fire panel.

1200 sounders/strobes and 175 smoke extraction systems (RAS) will detect fire hazards even as they occur. The RAS test the air for smoke particles as it is extracted through a total of 34,000 meters of special piping, and if the limit values are exceeded, they will trigger a pre alarm or a full alarm. In addition, 136 smoke and heat exhaust units work together in a networked system to prevent smoke from spreading.

Public address equipment for optimal voice quality
A Praesidio type electroacoustic system manufactured by Bosch will ensure that information is communicated effectively at all times. 5000 loudspeakers – some specially modified – will be installed on 540 loudspeaker circuits: this will ensure that audible information is passed on to staff and visitors quickly and clearly – wherever they are on the Trade Fair site. 135 amplifiers, each with an output of 4 x 125 watts, will guarantee the best possible voice quality and optimal volume at all times.

The Building Management System BIS produced by Bosch will be used to coordinate and monitor the security components, which will be interconnected by more than 70 kilometers of cabling. The system is easy to operate, so that fast, uncomplicated cooperation with rescue organizations is assured in an emergency.

Stuttgart’s New Trade Fair Center is located in the heart of the vibrant Stuttgart region and has good links to the airport and major roads. The exhibition area occupies around 100,000 square meters and is divided into eight halls; together with the convention center, it combines all the qualities of an exceptional venue for trade exhibitions as well as sports and cultural events.
