The Story of Berty Button Kids, the Relation to Jelly Beans and The New Children’s Story Book Series

ALBURY, Australia December, 2012 – In the ‘Berty Button Kids’ children’s truck story book series, the adventures of a real fleet of trucks covered in jellybean images is depicted through their caricatures with names such as Berty Button, Quartez, and Mini Bert. But the story of how Berty Button Kids - a children’s product - was founded in the traditionally male-dominated transport industry, is quite unusual.

Berty Button Ltd was originally a transport company owned by Mark Button, which offered transport services in Perth and was riding the wave of the mining boom. One day, Mark was close to burnout due to the increased demand for his transport services, and mentioned this to his business partner and the brains behind Berty Button Kids, Marina Bertolino.

A few days later, Marina spotted a bright and positive card covered with jelly beans at a card stand. She mailed it to Mark with a message that the future is bright and colourful just like the jelly beans in the card. Mark appreciated the bright and positive gesture, and it marked the beginning of an organisational change – Mark was about to cover all of his trucks in jellybeans.

In July 2007, the Berty Button trucks launched their new, colourful artwork at an annual fundraising event for children with leukaemia called Convoy for Kids. After seeing all of the children’s glee spread across their faces as they saw the jelly bean covered trucks, Marina understood the impact the jellybean trucks could have on the daily lives of people all around Perth, and set out on a mission to bring a smile to the faces of more children through her innovative children’s story book series focused on the adventures of the trucks.  www.bertybuttonkids.com/

Berty Button Kids is a series of fun and colourful Australian kids’ story books, which are based on the joyful and delightful experiences of the professional drivers from Berty Button and how they go about their work day. The beautifully illustrated first book in the series, BertyButton Gets a Team!, is set to be launched during Children’s Week between 20-28 October 2012. The stories follow the jellybean trucks from Perth to the far North West and across other parts of Australia, just like the real trucks.

A school delivery recently caused upheaval as the children refused to work while the jelly bean truck was on the premises, enthused by the bright jellybean image on their delivery truck. The brains behind Berty Button Kids, Marina, expects that once children around Australia begin reading the children’s story books, they won’t be able to get enough of the colourful trucks that depict an image of positivity in an increasingly tougher world.
