New system will streamline content flow and enable electronic filings

BLUE BELL, Pa., July 13, 2006 – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) awarded Unisys Corp. (NYSE: UIS) a contract to develop the commission’s information management and access project (InfoMAP), the company announced today.

The 18-month services contract, awarded in March and worth approximately $4.2 million, calls for Unisys to implement an electronic content and case management system that will yield efficiencies in docketing, tracking and sharing information throughout the PUC. Eventually, the new system will permit electronic filings and afford the public access to information filed with and produced by the commission.

The PUCs current system was developed almost 30 years’ ago and, according to the utility, includes mainframe-based applications that are difficult and costly to support today.

“We selected Unisys, because they were the best qualified and the lowest bidder among potential bidders,” Chairman Wendell F. Holland said.

Other benefits to be realized via InfoMAP include the consolidation of more than 70 disparate data bases into a single repository, improved document flow, the ability to accept and disseminate documents electronically and, ultimately, the opportunity for utilities to make payments online.

“Unisys is pleased to have been selected by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to implement a new content and case management system. This partnership with the PUC will lead to improved operating efficiencies within PUC and better public access to PUC information,” said Reed Laughlin, vice president, Unisys Global Public Sector.

The migration of data as well as the consolidation of the 70+ databases into a single MS SQL data base managed by a FileNet enterprise content management system will provide the PUC with a unified view of all cases and related data in across all 14 bureaus. The solution is intended to address the needs of the PUC in a simplistic, user-friendly fashion that is easily maintained.
