BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Vice President for International Affairs David Zaret will speak on Wednesday, Dec. 12, about an IU delegation’s recent trip to South America.

The forum and reception will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Grand Foyer of IU Auditorium.

Following Zaret’s talk, there will be opportunities for questions and informal conversation with members of the IU delegation, who are especially eager to welcome those who have a continuing interest in South America and its cultures and societies.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie, accompanied by his wife, Laurie Burns McRobbie, and Zaret, visited Brazil, Argentina and Chile over eight days earlier this month, to strengthen IU’s connections with leading universities, meet with political leaders and renew ties with IU alumni.

It was the first trip to South America by a sitting IU president in nearly 40 years and the first to Brazil in 70 years.

While in Brazil, the university signed an agreement with the Brazilian Academy of Letters, a distinguished literary society and the foremost institution devoted to the Portuguese language in the world. McRobbie also signed agreements with several universities in Brazil and Chile.

A blog, “IU Goes to South America: Presidential Visit 2012,” provides a thorough review of the delegation’s activities.

The public event, organized by the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, will also be streamed live and archived for later viewing at www.broadcast.iu.edu.

Those planning to attend should email ovpia@iu.edu by Tuesday, Dec. 4.
