36 Mitrion Virtual Processors to Accelerate Processing on Cray XD1 supercomputer

Los Angeles, July 12, 2006 – Mitrionics™, Inc., developer of the Mitrion™ Virtual Processor and software-centric Mitrion-C programming language for FPGA Supercomputing acceleration, today announced that the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has purchased 36 Mitrion Virtual Processor licenses as part of the Mitrion Platform to accelerate supercomputing applications on a Cray XD1™ supercomputer purchased in 2005. NRL also has the option to purchase an additional 114 Mitrion Virtual Processors to further increase the capacity and processing performance of the Cray XD1 system. FPGA Supercomputing is an exciting and growing market segment based on technology that enables processor performance acceleration 10x to 100x greater than traditional processors and with much lower power consumption. NRL performs research in a number of areas including Astrophysics, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Electro-magnetics, Hyper-spectral Imaging, and Signal Processing.

Scientists, developers, and researchers strive to improve productivity by achieving faster performance in their supercomputing applications and lower power consumption in their systems. The software-centric Mitrion Platform is ideal for software developers, scientists, and researchers because it allows FPGA Supercomputing applications to be developed without any circuit design skills. Key application areas that stand to benefit most from FPGA Supercomputing are bioinformatics, oil and gas, imaging, and financial industries.

“Mitrionics is pleased the Naval Research Laboratory has selected the Mitrion Platform for its FPGA Supercomputing application development,” stated Anders Dellson, CEO of Mitrionics, Inc. “It is exciting to see our technology being implemented on a large capacity system such as the Cray XD1 supercomputer with its capacity to show the tremendous processing potential inherent in our joint solution.”

´´We are pleased with Mitrionic’s support for Cray customers and our reconfigurable computing programs,´´ said Jan Silverman, Cray´ senior vice president, corporate strategy and business development. ´´We look forward to our continued relationship as we develop future FPGA capabilities as part of Cray´s Adaptive Supercomputing vision.´´

About the Mitrion Platform and Mitrion Virtual Processor
The fine-grain, massively parallel Mitrion Virtual Processor in the FPGA makes it possible to program a processor instead of designing a circuit. The Mitrion Virtual Processor has a unique architecture, which can be adapted to run on any FPGA based system.Together with the Mitrion Software Development Kit, they offer a unique solution for developing supercomputing applications for FPGAs on a true software level. This dramatically reduces the total development costs for FPGA-based software acceleration, and more importantly, enables the whole supercomputing industry to benefit from FPGA application acceleration.
