American Express Refunds Merchant Discount Rate to Charities for Contributions Made for Hurricane Sandy Relief

NEW YORK - In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, American Express today announced that it will rebate the merchant discount rate to the following non-profit organizations for charitable contributions for Hurricane relief that Cardmembers make directly using their American Express Cards:

• American Red Cross
• AmeriCares
• City Harvest
• Habitat for Humanity
• Humane Society of the United States
• Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City
• Salvation Army
• Save the Children
• United Way of America
• World Vision

The rebate, which will be given directly to the charities listed above, is effective retroactively from Monday, October 29 through December 31, 2012.

Cardmembers can also use their Membership Rewards® points for charitable contributions to these organizations as well as others.

In addition, American Express will donate $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross and other organizations involved in Hurricane relief efforts.
