South Africa’s largest medical aid service provider, Discovery Health, will be adjusting its product portfolio in 2013.

In an effort to provide affordable medical aid cover appropriate for entry level consumers, the medical aid giant is set to extend the popular KeyCare series with an additional low cost plan.

Keycare Access will deliver exactly the same out of hospital cover as the richer Keycare Plus option but at a reduced contribution of only R450 a month per individual member.

“KeyCare Access has been created as a new access point to the KeyCare Series, offering the same out-of-hospital cover as KeyCare Plus from as little as R450 a month. Cover includes private GP visits, specialist’s consultations, optometry and dental benefits,” said a company spokesperson recently.

“In hospital, the plan covers private hospitalisation for childbirth, care for the member’s baby up to 12 months after birth, and sudden, accidental traumatic events and emergencies. We pay for approved admissions for other hospital care in our contracted network of state facilities,” he continued.

The company hasn’t neglected its top end client base and intends adding to its comprehensive offerings with the Classic Comprehensive Zero MSA. The innovative new product offers the flexibility of a medical savings account to cover day-to-day expenses coupled with the same high end private in-hospital and chronic medication cover as the established Classic Comprehensive medical aid package.

“All benefits and limits are the same as on Classic Comprehensive, however, the plan does not have the Insured Network Benefit and the Trauma Recovery Extender Benefit. MRI and CT scans are covered only when the member reaches the Above Threshold Benefit.”

The all-new ChroniCare benefit is designed to lower the cost of chronic medication for members suffering from a range of specified chronic conditions.

“From January 2013, Discovery Health Medical Scheme members registered on the Chronic Illness Benefit for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes or asthma will qualify for up to 25% cash back on a wide range of items purchased from Dis-Chem stores countrywide.”
