William Worthington Microbrewery Appoints Stefano Cossi as Head Brewer

WEBWIRE

Former UK Brewer of the Year 2010, Stefano Cossi, has been appointed as Head Brewer at the William Worthington’s Brewery. The microbrewery, located in Burton-upon-Trent at the National Brewing Centre, is home to William Worthington’s flagship brands, including White Shield and Red Shield. Stefano will be taking over from Jim Appelbee, who stood down earlier this year.

Returning to the UK from Italy, where he was technical director of spent a year specifying a new brewery, Stefano brings with him an impressive brewing pedigree. During his previous stint in the UK, as technical director at Thornbridge, Stefano oversaw the development of Jaipur IPA. In total, brews on which Stefano worked picked up an impressive 32 awards.

Martin J Cecil, Head of Brewing Innovation at Molson Coors, said of Stefano’s appointment:
“After an exhaustive search, we believe that we have found the right brewer to take on William Worthington’s. His reputation within the industry speaks for itself, and it is a hugely positive move to bring someone with Stefano’s talent and craftsmanship on board. We believe Stefano’s commitment to quality will ensure our traditional brands continue to satisfy ale drinkers throughout the U.K, whilst continuing to drive innovation at the brewery so William Worthington’s continues to capitalise on the growing popularity of cask and bottled ales.”
