Undeclared Soy Causes Recall of Frozen Tempura Shrimp
EMSL Analytical provides testing for a wide variety of allergens, including soy.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall issued by Publix Super Market for their 11oz Publix Premium Frozen Tempura Shrimp. The recall was initiated after the discovery of soy in the dipping sauce packet that came with the shrimp. The allergen was not listed on the packaging.
Since the undeclared soy was discovered all products have been removed from store shelves. Consumers who already purchased the product are advised to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
To date, there have been no reported illnesses in association with this recall. However, those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy are at risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if the product is consumed.
