Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA)—the independent music distribution arm of Warner Music Group—today announced the appointment of Dave Stein to Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs. Based in New York, Stein will be responsible for helping forge new partnerships with independent labels and artists, as well as expanding existing ones. In addition, he’ll provide strategic counsel across the company. Stein will report to Ariel Taitz, SVP, Strategy and Development for WEA and ADA, and David Orleans, President, ADA.

In making the announcement, Taitz said, “Dave’s wide-ranging experience and strong network of industry contacts will make him an enormous asset in building new relationships and assisting in ADA’s growth. His unwavering commitment to independent music and label development means he will fit perfectly into ADA’s senior team as we continue to be ambitious and aggressive on behalf of our partners.”

Stein added, “ADA is well-known for providing superior services to many of world’s most revered labels and artists. I’m honored to join their team and help them define what it means to be a modern music distributor.”

Stein previously owned and operated a private practice specializing in entertainment law and represented a variety of clients including Century Media Records, Equal Vision Records, Doghouse Records, Portugal. The Man, Taking Back Sunday, Hatebreed, and Hot Water Music, among others. Stein graduated from Fordham University School of Law.

Having achieved 3.43% and 3.64% overall album market shares in Q1 and Q2, respectively, ADA’s overall album market share grew to 4.62% in Q3. According to SoundScan data for the week ending October 14th, ADA’s weekly market share was 5.70%. Contributing to its success are a number of ADA releases which can currently be found climbing the Billboard 200 chart, including the latest albums from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—which is currently No. 2—The Lumineers, Deadmau5, Acacia Strain, The xx, Converge, Bad Books, Beth Orton, Cat Power, and Gungor.

In June of 2012, ADA expanded its services to the independent music community by officially joining forces with Independent Label Group (ILG), adding the company’s resources and expertise in radio promotion, publicity and marketing to ADA’s current offering. Since that time, ADA has begun aggressively pursuing a range of new deals, including recent signings with Blue Sky Riders—the new band featuring legends Kenny Loggins, Georgia Middleman, and Gary Burr—hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and independent Portland, Oregon-based record label Tender Loving Empire.
