New On The Book Beat
Launch of a new social networking service for the book industry
Cape Town, 18 October, 2012 – abcdigital books has launched a new social network aimed at book people – readers, authors, publishers, book dealers and critics. Behind this is bookseller, computer whizz and columnist Peter Shaw. Shaw explains that this new website is a great new forum for producers and consumers in the book industry.
It is a members only site, although at present while membership is building, there is no charge. Members can form their own public or private groups – for example, authors might form a group of their fans, booksellers of their customers, and so on. Members can chat to whoever is on line, or to specific people in private, or take part in public discussions on the site’s forum. A limited amount of members writing will be showcased.
Shaw comments that readersonline.org is an excellent way for authors and publishers as well as booksellers to keep abreast of changing public taste. They can also advertise – either inexpensive display or free classified ads, and the site has its own associated book auction site with a low fee structure.
The site therefore offers readers a channel through which to buy and sell books. It is also planned to make a variety of ebooks available to members at a later date.
