The Rockies Venture Club held their 24th annual Colorado Capital Conference last week in Denver. The goal of the conference is to educate and connect private equity investors and entrepreneurs for the purpose of boosting local economic development.

Of the approximately 70 companies that applied, fourteen were chosen to present. Each entrepreneur had 20 minutes to tell their story and impress investors. After the presentations were over the investors could vote with their “Venture Bucks” in a fun competition to distinguish the most promising companies.

The Venture Bucks program was created to recognize the best opportunities and to add an element of competition for public recognition among the presenters. Since actual investments can take three to four months or more to take place, the Venture Bucks program provides immediate feedback on how the companies are perceived.

The winner of the 2012 Venture Bucks program was Biofeedz, who make wearable technology that connects wirelessly with smartphones and tablets. Upon receiving their prize, Chris Morley, CEO of Biofeedz, said, “We are obviously delighted to win the Venture Bucks award. I think it speaks to the compelling technology we have created and that investors believe we are a company that is going to have a big impact moving forward.”

Peter Adams, the Executive Director of the Rockies Venture Club, said, “This year’s Colorado Capital Conference had more and better companies than in the past. While these companies offer excellent investment opportunities, there was a buzz about Biofeedz. I think their concept really just grabbed everyone’s imagination and created excitement. This interest was reflected in the Venture Bucks award and in the RVC Angel Investor meetings that followed the event.”
