Boca Raton, Fla   Back by popular demand “Women’s Minyan” returns to South Florida!   Shari Upbin directs, Myrna Loman produces, the provocative play written by internationally acclaimed author Naomi Ragen. The work is being presented by Levis JCC West Boca Theatre Company in Boca Raton, Florida November 28th through December 16th.

“Women’s Minyan” ran for sold out audiences for over 5 years in Israel. Last year the popular play also sold out to standing room audiences in Boca Raton.  The play is  gearing up for a major New York run according to One Circle Productions.

“Women’s Minyan” is the true story of an ultra-orthodox Rabbi’s wife and mother of twelve prevented from seeing her children after she leaves the community under bizarre and horrific circumstances. The play brings together New York Director Shari Upbin and her daughter Rabbi Danielle Upbin of Congregation Beth Shalom in Pinellas County. Rabbi Upbin is serving as Rabbinical consultant of the piece. The story is set in Meah Shearim in Israel.

Director Upbin says she’s thrilled to be directing the work in South Florida and has high praise for Naomi Ragen, the author of the play. “Ms. Ragen has been a tireless advocate for women’s rights in Israel, said Upbin. She’s fought against gender segregation on Israeli busses and bias in rabbinical courts. I hope theatre goers are inspired and empowered by the play’s powerful message.” Upbin said Ragen emailed her with words of encouragement for this year’s South Florida run.

Shari Upbin recently directed the award-winning comedy “Confessions of a Jewish Shiksa.”
