She’s Coming! - The Queen of The Gay Social Web

How QueensSpeech.com, the new gay social web site, will change the way the gay community access information online.

The way we access information online is changing. New websites employing ‘social networking’ technology are transforming the way information is published and accessed online. QueensSpeech.com, a new current affairs and conversational website for the gay and lesbian community, hopes to harness social web technology and place editorial control of its content straight into the hands its users - the gay community.

The success of new ‘social’ websites is phenomenal, if the example of Digg, a San Francisco based website focused on technology news is anything to go by. Digg launched in 2004 and now has 300,000 registered users, drawing 8.5 million unique visitors a month, (Source: Google Watch). This level of success is truly amazing for a news site, given the site focuses solely on technology news. However can Diggs’ success translate into other niche markets, such as the gay community?

Market research conducted in the past has confirmed that the gay community is “information hungry and disproportionately favour the use of the internet and online communication”, (Source: Witeck’s Market Research Study). Matthew Ogston co-founder of QueensSpeech.com firmly believes there is a market for gay social websites. “Currently there are only a few quality sites out there giving trusted information to the gay community. Using social technology we hope to be the central hub for quality news, current affairs, opinion and discussion for the international gay community”.

Ogston hopes to develop QueensSpeech.com with the aim to give gay people across the world easy access to information that is relevant to them. “Registered users will be able to comment, or publish their own opinion on anything that they believe should be highlighted to the gay community. Articles or news items found on other sites can be discussed, along with blogs, stories or other content of interest. QueensSpeech.com will use a unique ranking algorithm to ensure that only the most relevant content, rated by other users, appears on the site”.

The team behind QueensSpeech.com hope to go a step further than other sites by adding a host of innovative features such as personalisation and new tagging technology which will allow users to “tag” or categorise content based on their relevance.

The new site is free to register and will be launching Autumn 2006. However, pre-registration is now open to everyone at www.queensspeech.com
A dedicated blog is available for visitors who want to be kept up to date with the project as it develops at www.queensspeech.com/blog

QueensSpeech.com is a new organisation based in the UK with the aim of giving gay web users free and open communication. QueensSpeech.com was founded by two highly dedicated and experienced web professionals.
