Mannheim, Germany, October 1, 2012 -- Award-winning California artist, Simon Raab, advocates honesty and integrity in the Presidential Debates and beyond (SimonRaabGallery.com). Raab’s latest artwork creation, “Words Should Count,” is a large-scale sculptured metal piece made in a medium he has named Parleau. The piece, which is comprised of painted and sculpted metal, evokes his frustration with the all too frequent dishonesty and lack of integrity of political candidates. The piece advocates the responsibilities that come with freedom of speech. SimonRaabGallery.com/wordsshouldcount

In this latest creation, Raab uses hand grenades as a well-known metaphor for expressed ideas. “Ideas can be good and bad, they are like grenades, on the side of good and evil; they can disrupt and transform and leave shrapnel of truth or the remnants of lies in your brain,” explains Raab.

“If you lie,” he says, “the lies will come back to hurt you. If you state goals in your campaign that you later ignore, then your pretense of being principled explodes. If you worry more about your political success than the country’s then, we are all maimed and injured.”

Raab suggests to the candidates that “the words coming from your mouths are like hand grenades, handle them the wrong way and they will explode in your mouth. Instead, be honest and keep your promises and admit your limitations. Accept your humanity and your fallibility, and think about all those who you represent--the weak, the strong, the rich and the poor. Always remember that dogma is the enemy of the free-thinking person and a free society.”

Recently, Raab won an award for his work “Gandhi Abused” on behalf of human rights at the Picture Art Foundation exhibit  “I Have the Right!”, in SimonRaabGallery.com/press
