Mobile Marketing Opportunity Escaping Obama and Romney Political Campaigns
Mobile marketing expert shows how both parties could improve their current mobile marketing political campaign to persuade swing voters
MIAMI, FL - During a recent marketing event in Miami, GKIC Independent Business Advisor Andrew Cass provided some insight on both presidential candidates’ position regarding the mobile marketing opportunity. Given the close race at this point, it seems the election will be won by the political party that can turn the undecided voters to their side; and that is where, according to Cass, a more effective mobile marketing political campaign would be crucial.
“Currently, both Obama and Romney mobile marketing efforts have revolved primarily around providing information to supporters. Although there is inherently nothing wrong with these activities, they are dealing with those individuals that have already picked their candidate,” stated Cass while speaking to a room full of small business owners.
He believes the opportunity is “slipping through their [candidates] fingers, in a moment when any advantage is likely desirable”, and questioned: “why not create mobile marketing campaigns that go after those sitting on the fence? The vote from those still undecided is what will swing this election,” he continued.
Cass referenced current mobile marketing campaigns, such as Mitt Romney’s app that provided a couple of hours advance notice to his running mate, and Obama’s Blippar app that provided a number of engaging functions to supporters, including the ability to impose one’s picture so that they would be high-fiving the President.
As co-founder of mobile marketing agency RemarkaMobile, Cass was questioned about an example of an idea for a possible campaign. “Undecided voters are concerned about individual issues. What if, for example, the Romney campaign created an app that provided a list of these issues, along with up to the minute quotes from each side regarding the issue? This would provide a great value to the swing voters and at the same time allow Romney to position his stance in the best light for these types of voters.”
Inspired by the results he has helped achieve by exploring the new mobile marketing opportunity in a business context, Cass added: “using the same list building strategies we create for small businesses, that campaign would even have the ability to further market to those that downloaded the app, through SMS text and email.”
