Laurent Collet-Billon appointed Advisor to the Chairman at Alcatel and CEO for defense and security matters

Paris, July 5, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that Laurent Collet-Billon is appointed Advisor to Serge Tchuruk, (Chairman and CEO of Alcatel) and CEO of Alcatel for defense and security matters. He will be responsible for relations with government bodies and will be proposed as a member of the Thales board, as part of the Alcatel representation.

Laurent Collet-Billion held several program management positions for defense telecommunications from 1977 to 1987, before becoming technical advisor to André Giraud at the Ministry of Defense for strategic, industrial and defense affairs in 1987 and 1988. He was then head of the Horus program (nuclear air-to-surface weaponry) between 1988 and 1992, and from 1992 to 1994, he held several management positions for ground, electronic and IT systems. He was appointed architect for the “strategic and tactic mobility” system until 1997, and then director for observation, telecommunications and information programs at the French defense procurement agency (DGA). Since 2001, he was deputy to the DGA director.
