According to the Huffington Post, McDonald’s has decided to add products’ calorie count to their menus in order to educate its customers. The information will be posted to all menus in McDonald’s restaurants and drive-throughs across the United States beginning September 17th.

The decision was made following the Supreme Court’s support of President Obama’s health care plan requiring all restaurant chains with 20 or more locations to provide calorie information on their menus.

McDonald’s currently posts calorie information in cities where it is already required, such as New York City and Philadelphia; however, the president of McDonald’s USA believes this information does not change what consumers choose to order.

The chain already posts its calorie counts in Australia, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. McDonald’s in Latin America also plans to begin providing calorie information on their menus beginning in the spring of 2013.

“Giving consumers nutritional information allows them to identify what they are purchasing and feeding to their families with more accuracy,” states Shannon Kauffman, EMSL’s Food Chemistry Laboratory Manager. “As one of the nation’s largest food testing laboratories, EMSL has the nutritional labeling expertise to help companies comply with food labeling regulations.”
