WEBWIRE

The developers of the new GL-Class from Mercedes-Benz paid particular attention to the engine. The specification called for excellent driving dynamics, both on and off the road – combined with the comfort of a luxury limousine. Fitted with Bosch technology, the engines of the cross-country vehicles are powerful, quiet, clean and economical power packs. Bosch is supplying the third generation Common Rail injection system for the diesel engines. This consists of the control unit, piezo-inline injectors, high-pressure pump and a variety of sensors and actuators. The piezo injectors in the diesel injection system operate with great speed and precision; they make an important contribution to reducing the emissions by up to 20 percent. Engine control units, throttle equipment, spark plugs and sensors are amongst the equipment Bosch supplies for the gasoline engines.

Other equipment supplied by Bosch for the Mercedes GL-Class includes the starter, alternator, the airbag control system with its sensors for fast, reliable impact detection, the parking aid and the pressure controller for automatic gearboxes.
