TestAmerica Expert Speaks on Laboratory Program Guidance and Emerging Technologies at the SHALE GAS INSIGHT™ 2012

WEBWIRE

TestAmerica’s Johnny Mitchell, National Program Director and industry expert, will provide guidance on designing quality-based analytical programs in conducting pre-drill surveys, and address the implicated risks for data interpretation as emerging technologies evolve in shale gas explorations. Both technical presentations will be given at the upcoming SHALE GAS INSIGHT™ 2012 during September 20-21, 2012 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Technical Committee of the Marcellus Shale Coalition has recently updated and released the Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) for conducting pre-drill water surveys. Under the Pre-Drilling Sampling Workshop, a pre-conference event hosted by TestAmerica and Environmental Service Laboratories, Mr. Mitchell will focus on the critical components required in analytical and reporting procedures that meet regulatory compliance, providing sound and accurate data for decision makers. The presentation will also evaluate appropriate analytical procedures and target compounds to be reported, proper data collection system, and elements of a defensible, quality laboratory program as outlined in the SAP.

In the technical session, Assessing Water Quality Data: Emerging Technologies and Methodologies, Mr. Mitchell’s second presentation will discuss the challenges and increasing concerns of data interpretation from monitored results in relation to improved technologies. The risks involved in false environmental measurements at exploration sites, and lack of interpreting data set limitations can lead to erroneous decisions. Mr. Mitchell will outline the hazards to avoid in data assessments, and provide suggestions to ensure that proper protocols are followed.

Mr. Mitchell has over 20 years of extensive experience in the environmental testing industry, directing multiple Federal Programs including AFCEE, USACE, Superfund and global commercial programs in the petroleum industry.

TestAmerica has been actively involved in the hydraulic fracturing sector for over four years, and was the first environmental laboratory to join the Marcellus Shale Coalition. As a laboratory Associate Member, TestAmerica partners with natural gas producers with respect to environmental testing challenges through the Coalition’s working committees. TestAmerica experts have presented on the environmental hazards, developing regulatory scene, and challenges in analytical data reported from these hydraulic fracturing activities.
