HolidayTravelWatch continues to hear from holidaymakers affected by a poor package holiday product!  UK Consumers are experiencing very unsatisfactory conditions in their hotels, particularly within those that offer themselves as all-inclusive!  Holidaymakers are staying at hotels big and small and some complexes have the feel of a village or a small town and therefore attract large numbers of cost conscious Travel Consumers.  Sadly, these holidaymakers, many of whom are young families or large family groups, are suffering with serious complaints and many are reporting to us problems with illness.  An example of some of the problems we have heard of in recent days include:

  1. Regular and sometimes lengthy power cuts;
  2. Public toilets blocked and overflowing;
  3. A film or scum floating on the surface of the hotel swimming pool;
  4. Dirty restaurants - floors and tables not cleaned;
  5. Unclean and reused plastic ’crockery’;
  6. Faulty air-conditioning;
  7. Hotel rooms so dusty you could write your name in the dust;
  8. Food appeared to be recycled;
  9. Food not kept covered;
  10. Flies and insects crawling over food;
  11. Uncooked chicken ’fluid’ dripping over work surface and stored next to cooked chicken;
  12. Serious and continuing gastric illness!

HolidayTravelWatch is concerned that holidaymakers are being exposed to such appalling conditions.  The Organisation does not accept any excuses that may be used, particularly that ’money is tight’.  There is no excuse that could justify such a dramatic fall in standards; we call on tour operators to make sure that only the highest possible standard is applied to protect holidaymakers health!

Holidaymakers caught up in such travel problems should not despair, because help is at hand!

The Organisation has created a series of guides on how to deal with illness problems and claims and all holidaymakers, either having returned to the UK or still ’trapped’ in a problem hotel should use these guides - they will help!

Frank Brehany, the Consumer Director of HolidayTravelWatch states:

“I still continue to be shocked by the experiences of UK holidaymakers!  It is simply not acceptable to expect UK holidaymakers to put up with such poor standards and then have to accept that their illness ’is just one of those things’.  I would urge all holidaymakers to use our guides, particularly those ’trapped’ in resorts right now, because they will help them deal with their holiday contract/illness problems and claims”.
