Salmonella Contamination in Baby Food Causes Recall

A voluntary recall was issued by Wellements LLC of Baby Move™ Prune Concentrate liquid dietary supplement after the detection of Salmonella in one of its ingredients. The contamination was discovered on July 13, 2012 when samples of five lots of raw material Purimune tested positive for Salmonella.

Although no illnesses have been reported to date, Salmonella can be very serious and sometimes fatal to infants and young children, elderly, and individuals with a weak immune system.  Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella commonly experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The infection typically lasts 4 to 7 days, and most individuals are able to recover without treatment.

The contaminated products of Wellements Baby Move™ Prune Concentrate were distributed to retail stores and online retailers nationwide from January 2012 to July 2012. They are sold in a glass bottle and packaged in an individual product carton.
