D. Miller & Associates congratulates Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation award-winners

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation presented awards at their Gala Celebration of Hope Dinner Thursday, July 12 in Washington, D.C. The dinner was part of a two day conference for mesothelioma patients, doctors, researchers, caregivers and advocates. D. Miller & Associates, PLLC was proud to have a representative in attendance.

The Pioneer Award was presented to Dr. David Sugarbaker, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Sugarbaker was honored for his work as founder of the International Mesothelioma Program (IMP). The IMP located at Brigham and Women’s Hospital has developed treatment options that can extend the lives and give hope to patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, a deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

Other honorees include Bonnie Anderson, awarded the Bruce Vento Hope Builder Award and Janice Malkotsis and Erica Lacono, recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award. Anderson is a survivor of mesothelioma as well as a strong advocate for the foundation. Malkotsis and Lacono both have had family members who fell victim to mesothelioma and have worked tirelessly to raise funds for research to find a cure for this cancer.

The Meso Foundation

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, or MARF, is a national non-profit organization. It is a collaboration of meso patients, their families, medical professionals, advocates and researchers determined to find a cure for the deadly mesothelioma cancer.
