Drinking Games announced the official launch of Drunk Mario - an online drinking video game - after nearly 4 months in development.  Game creator and site editor Russ Hudson said Drunk Mario is free to play and can be accessed at the following link: http://drinkinggames.me/online-drinking-games/.

With a significant increase in the level of interest in drinking games over the last several years, it’s no wonder that the culture has spilled over into video games.  Games that involve alcohol traditionally included Beer Pong and Kings, but lately movies, television shows, speeches, court cases, social media and video games are being used to create drinking games.

However, Drunk Mario appears to an exception, as the entire video game was developed from the beginning as a drinking game, whereas most video games are adapted in order to play with alcoholic beverages.

The game as played on the site features a disheveled “Mario” type character that stumbles around typical Mario Bros. style levels collecting beer cans and whiskey bottles as power-ups.  But Hudson and his team took things a lot farther than just a superficial appearance of a “drinking game.”

“When you get hurt, fall off a cliff, touch a bad guy or die, a screen comes on that instructs the player to drink as a penalty.  Game play resumes after the player has done so.”  Explains Hudson.  “It’s a completely ludicrous game and is really just meant to have fun - you don’t actually have to drink and if you do it doesn’t have to be alcohol.”

While this might be true, Drunk Mario is clearly focused on booze.  Instead of shooting fireballs to kill turtles like in the original game, in this version your character vomits on cops and what appear to be bouncers in order to “beat” them.  And assuming the player isn’t so drunk that they can’t win, at the end of each level Mario urinates on a flag to end the level and progress to the next.

Even the object of the game is alcohol-related: the plot consists of Mario attempting to rescue a drunken barfly after she gets arrested for “wanking on that wanker,” as the game says - whatever that means.

Hudson indicated that the company currently has three more online drinking games in development, including online Beer Pong, Kings and Quarters.

DrinkingGames.ME is an aptly named website dedicated to drinking games and its associated culture.  The site features articles and instructions for nearly 100 games, and has several other playable online drinking video games in development.  Drunk Mario is free to play for anyone who visits the website.  For questions, to schedule an interview with Russ Hudson or to order a press kit, please visit the company website at http://www.drinkinggames.me or call 1-802-738-0775
