Logic PDs Marketing Director Wins First Minnesota Data Opener

Infographic highlights gender gap in science and engineering in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS June 13, 2012 Innovative thinking is encouraged at all levels and across all departments at Logic PD. As proof, Jason Voiovich, Logic PDs director of marketing, has been named a winner of the first Minnesota Data Opener. The contest challenged entrants to review data from the Minnesota State Demographer and develop a visual representation that captures an important fact about education in Minnesota. Three winners were announced yesterday.

Voiovich created an infographic titled, The State of Science Education in Minnesota in One Number: 70000, that details the current gender gap in science professionals in the state, how that gap is projected to grow over the next six years, and the implications for high school science and engineering education today. His infographic can be viewed at

During a live chat, Voiovich explained why he chose to focus on this subject matter. He said, As an engineering and product development company, the quality of the engineering workforce in Minnesota is of particular interest to us"

Voiovich added, Based on the demographic analysis, policymakers and corporate leaders need to be focused on K-12 science and engineering education in addition to college programs.

The contest, hosted by the Minnesota State Demographic Center and journalist Michael Olson of Minnesota Public Radio News (MPRN), challenged data professionals, artists, students, policy makers and concerned citizens to submit a visual based on data supplied by the State Demographic Center. The goal of the contest is to help Minnesotans better understand educational achievement in their state. Olson said he will share the winning visuals with state lawmakers.
