Bayer CropScience’s vegetable seed business Nunhems continues to invest in future growth after 90 years of successful business

Monheim, Germany – On Friday June 23, 2006, Nunhems, the vegetable seed business of Bayer CropScience celebrated the 90th anniversary of its headquarters in Haelen, The Netherlands, at its premises. On this occasion, the Governor of the Queen of the Province of Limburg, L.J.P.M Frissen inaugurated two new facilities, a seed processing warehouse and a greenhouse for breeding, phytopathology and biotechnology, representing an investment of approximately 6 million Euros.

In the new state-of-the-art seed processing warehouse of 5.000 m2 Nunhems improves its seeds through latest technologies: quality cleaning, quality enhancement, priming, coating, pelleting and seed storage under optimal conditions. In the new research greenhouse of 16.000 m2 Nunhems concentrates its resistance breeding activities for North-West European crops such as carrot, leek, cucumber and supports the breeding work at other Nunhems locations in the world. By testing the breeding material at an early stage on their resistance to pests and diseases Nunhems improves the breeding of vegetable seeds worldwide with regard to its focus to offer healthy vegetables. Extensive facilities with growing rooms and climatic chambers have been created for phytopathology research and biotechnology.
