Fort Myers, Florida - Executives at Advance Solar and Spa, a solar energy company, last week announced the start of the FPL solar rebates on May 3rd, 2012.  The popular solar energy rebate program through Florida Power & Light has about 3.3 million in rebates to distribute this year, which will make it easier and less costly for consumers to install solar energy in their homes and businesses.

The Florida Power & Light Company created the solar electricity rebates as part of an ongoing pilot program which was overwhelmingly approved by the Florida Public Service Commission.   The program is designed to help homeowners and businesses reduce their energy consumption, especially during peak hours.

The rebates are approved on a first-come, first-served basis for both residential and business customers so consumers are encouraged to apply as quickly as possible.  While FPL offers the rebates to help make it easier and less costly for consumers to install solar energy, funding for the program is limited and it will end as soon as the available funds have been exhausted.

The benefits of installing a solar electric system may be obvious to most people such as a drastically reduced or eliminated electricity bill, but there are a few hidden benefits such as increasing the value of the home or business establishment.  Another benefit is maintaining a clean environment as solar energy doesn’t produce anything which is harmful to the planet.

It has been a long standing belief among millions of consumers that solar panels and other forms of renewable energy are cost prohibitive for the average homeowner.  That is simply a myth which isn’t true as the price of solar panels have been reduced considerably and they will pay for themselves over time which means the homeowner will receive free energy for as long as they live in the home.  Government and private programs such as FPL’s rebates have also reduced the initial costs of solar energy which makes it possible for even more consumers to begin using renewable energy to power their homes and businesses.
